Project toolbar

These controls work across the whole loaded project and both editing views.

Open package
Choose a Trados project package (.sdlppx) or return package (.sdlrpx), up to 256 MB. Nitro checks and extracts it on your computer. The original archive stays unchanged.
Choose working folder… / Cancel
Choose a parent folder and grant access. Nitro creates a new, uniquely named working folder inside it, then opens the extracted project. Cancel closes the dialog. A return package opens as a separate working copy; it is not merged into another project.
Create return package
Open a project or package containing the original project and task information. Choose which target files to return. The export includes current text, statuses and comments—even unsaved edits—and their source counterparts. Translation memories are not included. Native Trados import validation is still pending.
File checkboxes / Select all / Clear selection
Include or exclude individual target files, select all files, or clear the selection. At least one target file must be selected.
Create package… / Cancel
Choose a new .sdlrpx filename and location to export the selected files. Cancel closes the dialog. Creating a return package does not save your working files or clear their unsaved indicators; use Save all separately.
Recent work
The project title from the Trados project file is used when available; otherwise the project filename or folder name is shown. Existing entries acquire their title when reopened. On the initial screen, choose a recent project to reopen its saved files at the last selected segment. Chrome may ask you to renew folder access. The list is stored in this browser for your account; it does not restore unsaved edits.
Recent path / Set folder path / Remove
Each item shows the folder name and complete relative file path. Chrome does not expose the absolute disk path. Use Set folder path to enter an optional full folder path; the displayed file path is then appended to it. This label stays in your browser and does not change which folder opens. Leave it blank to return to the folder name. Remove deletes only the recent-list entry, not your files.
Help
The yellow Help button opens this Interface guide in a new tab, keeping your editor open.
Open project folder
Choose a local project folder in desktop Chrome and grant read/write access. Nitro reads SDLXLIFF files, local TMs and supported termbases. If several Trados projects are found, choose one and press Open. English (en-US) targets are currently preferred. The picker starts near your last folder; select another folder to switch projects.
Add TMs
Add one or more local SDLTM translation memories to the current project. Searches use the loaded memories together; project content is processed on your computer.
Save all
Save modified translation files from both views. Existing files are backed up in Nitro Backups beside each file. Outside changes are checked before overwriting; a conflict leaves the affected edits open for review.
Undo / Redo
Reverse or reapply shared editing operations. Group replacements and consistency corrections can be undone together. Undo history is held in this browser session; save again if you undo an already-saved edit.
Second pane / Hide second pane
Show or hide the Reference view. It shares the same files and edits as Main, but keeps its own position, filters, text size, TM search and panel sizes.
Review consistency
Open the project-wide review panel at the bottom. It compares repeated source passages and checks preferred wording you specify.
Files stay local
A reminder that translation files, TM searches and termbase processing stay on your computer. The server delivers the app and manages accounts.
Sign out
End the account session. Nitro asks before discarding unsaved edits. Save first if you want to keep them.
Users (administrators only)
Open account management. Approve enables a pending account; Disable revokes its access and server sessions. Close returns to the editor.
02

Files sidebar

Keep the file list available without permanently using editing space.

Files tab
Move the pointer over the left edge, focus the tab, or click Files to reveal the project’s file list.
Pin open / Unpin
Keep the sidebar visible, or return it to its compact edge tab. Escape closes an unpinned drawer.
File names
Click a file to jump to its first segment in the active view. Hover over a name for its path. Revealing a segment clears that view’s filters if necessary.
03

Segment filters and text size

Main and Reference have independent filters. Text, status, Bookmarked and Has comments filters work together.

Filter segments…
Type to narrow the visible segment list immediately. This searches loaded source/target text; it does not change the files.
Either / Source / Target
Choose which language the text filter searches.
Status
Show all statuses, Not translated, Draft, Translated, or another review/sign-off status present in the project. An active edit stays visible until you leave it, even if editing changes its status.
Clear filter
Clear text, status, Bookmarked and Has comments filters in this view. The other view is unaffected.
Bookmarked
Show only bookmarked segments in this view. Combine with Has comments, text and status filters. Each view keeps its own filters.
Has comments
Show segments that have comments, including comments added in this session. Combine with Bookmarked to find marked segments with comments.
Font size
Adjust the source and target text size from 11 to 30. Row heights fit their contents.
Row count
See how many segments match this view’s filters. “Filtered rows” operations refer to this complete matching set, including rows outside the visible screen.
04

Segments, statuses and tags

Click target text once to edit it in place. The corresponding source and target row are highlighted together.

Comment count / Comments
Click the comment count beside a segment, or select a segment and choose Comments, to read its comments. Each entry shows the author, severity and date when available. Original Trados comment anchors are preserved. Existing comments can be read, but cannot yet be edited or deleted.
New segment comment / Severity / Add comment
Enter your comment and choose Low, Medium or High severity, then click Add comment. The comment applies to the entire target segment and records your account email as the author. It appears in both views immediately. Save all writes it into the SDLXLIFF file; until then it is marked as unsaved.
Close / protected segments
Close returns to the editor. Comments on locked or otherwise protected segments are available for reading; adding comments is disabled there. Use Has comments in the filter bar to find commented segments.
Segment number + TM pill
The number identifies the segment. The adjacent pill shows its original Trados match percentage when available. Otherwise, ≈ marks the local TM source-similarity estimate; — means no score is available yet. Hover for provenance and additional score details. Similarity does not verify the target translation.
Status icons
A green check means Translated or an approved status. A gray pencil means text has been entered but not finalized. A blank paper icon means no translation text has been entered; a red exclamation mark identifies a rejected status. Hover for the exact Trados status and an explanation. The icons stay the same size when you select a segment.
Bookmark
Click the outline bookmark beside a segment to mark it; click the filled bookmark to remove it. You can also bookmark locked segments. Changes appear in both views and are saved immediately to the local .viewer-flags.json sidecar, without changing the SDLXLIFF or its status.
Unsaved and locked indicators
A yellow-tinted whole row and small dot identify unsaved changes. A lock icon, subdued text and very light gray crosshatching identify locked segments. Protected rows, including unresolved tracked changes, cannot be edited; hover for the reason. Bookmarks can still be added to locked rows.
Source and target text
Select source text to copy it. Edit the target directly; text changes return supported segments to Draft. In tagged targets, edit the text between protected tag symbols.
Status menu + Set current
Choose Translated, Draft or Not translated, then apply it to the current editable segment. This menu changes status; the Status filter only controls which rows you see.
Set filtered rows
Apply the chosen status to all matching editable segments in this view. Locked/protected rows are skipped. The operation uses shared Undo.
Highlight TM ≥ … %
Enable or disable high-match highlighting and choose the threshold (90% by default). It considers original Trados matches and local TM source similarities that have been checked. Selecting a segment can trigger the local TM lookup.
Tag selection / source tag symbols
Select target words, then choose Tag selection or click the corresponding source tag to wrap them in a compatible tag pair. For a standalone tag, place the cursor first. When multiple compatible tags exist, select one in Choose a source tag, or Cancel. Unsupported or conflicting tag structures are protected; tag characters cannot be typed over.
Match attention
New high-TM matches and recognized source terms briefly highlight to attract attention. Reduced-motion preferences are respected.
05

Find and replace

Use the Find / replace button to show or hide these controls. Replacements affect target text.

Find / Replace with
Enter literal search text and replacement wording. Tags are protected; a match cannot cross a tag boundary.
Match case
Require the same capitalization. Leave it off for case-insensitive matching.
Filtered rows / All files
Choose this view’s matching segments or all loaded files. Protected segments are skipped.
Next
Find and select the next editable occurrence, wrapping to the start when needed.
Replace & next
Replace the current found occurrence and move to the next. If no valid occurrence is selected, it finds one first.
Replace all
Apply replacements immediately across the selected scope. Undo reverses the entire operation. No separate confirmation is shown, so check the scope first.
06

Translation memory

Each view has its own TM reference panel; all loaded memories are searched together.

Background TM scores
Nitro fills in local TM similarity scores in the background and saves them in the local sidecar JSON file. Cached scores are reused when reopening the same source text with the same TM contents and matching method. Adding or changing TMs invalidates the cache. Original Trados percentages remain unchanged; ≈ identifies a Nitro estimate. A score of 0 means no suggestion met the matching threshold, not a verified absence of all similarity. The footer shows progress and reports cache-save problems; hover for details.
Automatic
Show similar source matches for the selected segment. This restores automatic lookup after a manual search. Result scores are Nitro’s source-similarity estimates, distinct from original Trados match metadata.
Search all loaded TMs… + language + Search
Search a phrase in Either, Source or Target. Press Enter or click Search; matching text is highlighted. The result caption gives the count (up to 300 manual results are displayed).
Use translation
Insert a suitable untagged suggestion into the selected editable target. It becomes Draft and can be undone. Tagged suggestions or tagged targets remain reference-only for this operation.
Select and copy / quick search
Copy text from either language in a TM result. In an editor source or target cell, make a text selection with Command (Mac) or Ctrl held when releasing the mouse to search that phrase in the corresponding TM language.
− / + / Hide TM / Show TM
Decrease or increase the panel height, or hide/show its contents. You can also drag its resize handle. Settings are independent for Main and Reference.
07

Termbase

Supported local termbases provide reference terms and source-word recognition.

Automatic recognition
Selecting a segment searches the loaded termbases and highlights recognized terms in its source. Results show available languages, the originating termbase and included notes.
Search open termbases… / Search terms
Enter a term and press Enter or click Search terms. Matching text is highlighted; up to 200 manual results are displayed.
Add termbases
Open supported local SDLTB, TBX or XML termbases. Enabled project termbases are loaded automatically when found inside the selected folder. Missing, ambiguous or external references are reported; use this button to add a local copy.
− / + / Hide TB / Show TB
Resize or collapse the termbase panel independently in each view. Its resize handle is also available.
Term entries
Select and copy term text. This panel provides reference; it does not edit or write back to the termbase.
08

Consistency review

Review differences across the project while keeping your main translation position. Differences can be intentional; you decide what to change.

Review groups on the left
Select a group of repeated source passages with different translations, or a preferred-wording issue. Counts refer to occurrences in loaded segments. Previous and Next page through long group lists.
Contrasting translations
See up to five distinct versions first, ordered by frequency. Counts show their occurrences; highlighting marks wording absent from the most frequent version. Further variants remain available in the occurrences below.
Search review groups… / Refresh
Filter the group list, or rerun analysis. The open panel also refreshes after edits. All analysis stays local.
Preferred wording
Enter a source term and preferred target term, then choose Use this wording or Cancel. The queue flags nonempty targets where that wording is absent. Remove glossary choice stops checking a choice. These choices last for the current project session only and do not change the termbase.
Open in Reference
Open an occurrence in the second view without moving Main. If needed, the Reference view opens and its filters clear. Full-screen review returns to the bottom pane so the editor is visible.
Use this translation / Use this wording
Copy a summary variant or occurrence into the replacement box. This prepares wording; it does not change any segment yet.
Occurrence checkboxes / Apply to selected
For a repeated-source group, select individual editable occurrences, review the replacement box, then apply it. Changes become Draft and share one Undo operation. Tagged and protected segments are reference-only here. A stale selection is rejected if an occurrence has changed.
Show more occurrences
Load the next batch of occurrences beneath the selected group.
− / + / Full screen
Resize the review panel, or expand it to fill the application window. Return to bottom pane or Escape restores the docked view without losing your selected group.
Hide / Consistency review
Hide the panel and return to translation. Use the main Review consistency button to reopen it; the panel’s Consistency review button returns to the group overview.
09

Keyboard, accounts and messages

A few final controls help with navigation and recovery.

Command/Ctrl + S
Save all modified files.
Command/Ctrl + Z / Shift + Z
Undo / redo shared edits.
Command/Ctrl + Enter
Set the current editable segment to Translated, then move to the next eligible segment in this view, skipping protected rows. The next segment stays vertically centered. A green border identifies the current row without adding selection shading.
Command/Ctrl + Shift + H
Open Find / replace in the focused view.
Tab / Shift + Tab
Move between editable text runs; at the edge of a target, move to the next/previous segment in the view.
Use Google Chrome bar / ×
The reminder is hidden automatically in Google Chrome. In other browsers, × closes it for the current page session. Nitro uses desktop Chrome’s direct folder access to keep translation data on your computer; Safari does not currently support this workflow.
Log in / Sign in / Request account
Use your email and password to sign in or request access. Preview registrations require approval. Once signed in, the Log in link opens the editor.
Status bar and error details
The bottom bar reports loading, matches, saving and errors, alongside segment/modified counts. Failed project opening shows a readable dialog with expandable Technical details and a Close button; the previous project is retained when the new one could not be loaded. Save before refreshing—unsaved changes live in browser memory.
